Why Renting is the Superpower Every Parent Needs
Let's be real - packing for a family holiday with a little person, can feel like you're prepping for a trip to the moon! Between the pram, the car seat, and the travel cot (Oh, and something to actually keep the little tornado seated at mealtimes!), it can feel like trying to squeeze your entire house into a suitcase.
But what if I told you there’s a better way? Back when on a family holiday with my then 4 month old, I discovered the magic of renting baby gear. After a long flight with a very squirmy baby, being met at the other end with everything we needed - but didn’t have to lug through the airport - was nothing short of a miracle. Honestly, it felt like winning the parenting lottery! There was no way I could have carried everything that my 4 month old needed, and luckily I didn’t have to!
I knew right then that one day Glasgow needed to have that same service for families travelling into and out of Scotland with Children.
The Holiday Upgrade You Didn’t Know You Needed!
Here’s the truth: buying mountains of travel equipment for one or two holidays a year is like splashing out on a slushie machine for a single summer’s day in Glasgow. Fun? Maybe. Worth it? Not really, and totally unnecessary in practice.
Renting gave me access to a top notch pram, bouncer and baby carrier for a fraction of the cost of buying it new. It felt like I was trying out all the best travel equipment for babies without the commitment (or the buyer’s remorse). And because I was on a journey to make sustainable choices wherever we could, it was a win-win situation. Less waste, less guilt and more money left over for very important things… like extra ice cream!
Less Stress, More Sleep…and Storage!
Renting also meant I didn’t have to worry about organising or making sure we’d booked enough luggage allowance when flying out from Glasgow. We didn’t have to spend hours scrolling through pram reviews to make sure I picked the best one for travelling either. When we got off the plane, we were met with everything clean, safe and ready to go. One less thing to think about!
And let’s talk about returning home. Renting meant I had a few less things to find homes for in our house on our return too. You know, it’s only occurred to me now that in actual fact, none of those items would have been suitable for us by the time we went on holiday again anyway! All that wasted storage!
Match Your Equipment to Your Adventure
Here’s the fun bit - I didn’t realise it at the time, but renting also lets you customise your travel set up. Heading to the beach? Grab a UV tent. Off on a hiking adventure? Rent the comfy back carrier. Every trip is different, and renting lets you roll with it - literally!
The Roundabout Way
Looking back, renting the travel equipment saved me money, stress and I gained space in my life for more important things. It was flexible, sustainable and reliable. I got what I needed, when I needed it. And now, having Roundabout as an extended part of Merry-go-round, means we get to offer travel pram hire, travel cot and highchair rental in Glasgow, making it easier for families visiting the city. Next time you’re visiting, or travelling out of Glasgow with babies or toddlers, think of Roundabout and discover how renting baby equipment can save space, stress and money, leaving more time for holiday adventures.
